One of the most decorated divisions of the U.S. Army, the 101st Airborne is America’s finest air assault division and excels at performing forcible entry capability through heliborne assault operations. The unyielding courage of this division allows it to undertake missions far in front of forward-line troops, executing their mission with lethal efficiency in extremely hostile environments. The Screaming Eagles are capable of inserting thousands of warfighters hundreds of miles into enemy terrain in a single lift.

The obverse of this coin shows a warfighter standing ready to engage any foe, along with the “Screaming Eagle” badge to the right, a symbol of the 101st Airborne’s mission to crush its enemies from the skies. The reverse has the proud Army motto “This We’ll Defend” above an open space perfect for engraving a name or personal message. Struck in brass and with an antique bronze finish, this coin's design is achieved through the use of special "splash" dies which give exceptionally deep relief to the image.
